Basically the rule is as simple as what we learned during our Sunday's school: ''Love your enemy.'' I believe that many of us go through the similar situation as mine. However, a gentle encouragement is that, dont give up. Perhaps in the worldly sense, you may seem stupid for being so nice, but in the end, it will be difinitely worth it.
I was inspired by the status posted by Pastor Joel Osteen this morning on facebook,'' Your own soul is nourished when you are kind.''- Proverbs 11:17. When you're good to others, your own soul is being strengthened. Your own life is being enriched.
Also, another vital verse that came into my mind while typing this post is on the book of Luke 6:32-36. Jesus said, "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them...... But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.''
''Love your enemies? Are you kidding me? ''. It is reasonable that loving our enemies is definitely a challenge, especially when your friend doesn't appreciate your companion no matter how well you have treated him/her. But, yes. I'm serious, love your enemy. Of course, there are times I find it really difficult too. I don't know about others, but if that happens, I would take it as a sign that I have drifted away from His presence. And that's where I know I have to humbly get back to Him and ask Him to grant me the love and compassion towards others.
I vividly remember a phrase from the Christian movie- Courageous. '' One would only know how to love others if and only if he loves God.'' I couldn't agree enough about the fact that the more you love God, the more you would understand His love, and then only you would know how to love others easier. Because God is love.
